The Garage Attic
I bought a $99 Dewalt shop vac that was on sale. I’ve been wanting one for quite a while for they’re so versatile and useful. The first job I did with it was to clean up and vacuum all of the crud, dirt, and cobwebs in our attic space above our garage. I actually brought up the shop vac into the attic, and vacuumed between every floor joist. It was disgusting. The shop vac was half full by the time I finished.
But it was now spic and span, and it enabled me to do the following…
So our garage gets pretty smoking hot in the summers. Especially in the months of June to early September. Because it’s not insulated, it’s just boiling in there. So I decided to install a whole house fan, for the garage. It’s a smaller one, that’s only meant for 700 sq feet. So good for our garage.
This is going to do a great job of sucking in air from the outside through all of the openings in the garage, then push it out through the attic vents thus exhausting and pushing out all of the stale, hot air. (kind of like the one in our house)
Now that this was done, and the attic was nice and clean, I decided to install some lighting in the attic. It’s fairly simple to do once you have the know how and took me about an hour and a half to do.
Since I was now able to see in this attic, I decided to finally tackle my next project… soffit lighting on the outside of the garage (of which I would need to use this attic to access). You can read more in my next post.
